McKenzie + Doug were married on a chilly November Friday in Kansas City. Their rustic ceremony and reception site was perched on a hill overlooking Wyandotte County Lake. The couple, who live in Kansas City, had family and friends travel from their hometowns in Illinois and Minnesota make the trip for their wedding day. It was such a fun day to see these two families and friends come together to celebrate McKenzie + Doug. The couple brewed their own beer, cut a cake of donuts and generally had an awesome time with their guests celebrating. Even the cold weather didn’t put a damper on the day!
These two met while working at Garmin. Their love of adventure and outdoors brought them together and to a proposal on a hike in the SW. They were originally planning their wedding in October 8th in SE Minnesota. In August, McKenzie emailed me to tell me that their plans changed and they would now be getting married in KC in November. And since I most likely wouldn’t be able to come to Kansas City, they would have to cancel my services. But, amazingly, everything was able to work out so that I could photograph their wedding! My sister lives in KC and was able to watch Willa for they day while I photographed their wedding. It even worked out to meet McKenzie + Doug on their original wedding weekend in La Crosse for a fun engagement session in the bluffs and along the Mississippi River.
This wedding, the fun people I got to work with and the serendipity of the timing for everything reinforces how grateful I am to work with amazing couples and to do be able to do what I love!
